Description

Almer (Donepezil Hydrochloride) Coated Tablets 5 mg. №30

Ingredients:

Each tablet contains 5 mg of donepezil hydrochloride.

Mechanism of Action:

Donepezil hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Almer tablets, is a reversible inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. By inhibiting this enzyme, donepezil increases the concentration of acetylcholine in the brain, which is a neurotransmitter essential for cognitive function.

Pharmacological Properties:

Donepezil belongs to the class of drugs known as cholinesterase inhibitors. It acts centrally and improves cognitive function by enhancing cholinergic neurotransmission in the brain.

Indications for Use:

Almer tablets are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.

Contraindications:

Do not use Almer tablets if you have a known hypersensitivity to donepezil hydrochloride or any of the tablet’s components. Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Almer tablets may include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, and fatigue. In some cases, bradycardia and syncope have been reported. Patients should be monitored for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration.

Usage Instructions:

The recommended dosage is one 5 mg tablet taken orally once daily, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.

Benefits Compared to Analogues:

Almer, with its active ingredient donepezil, has demonstrated efficacy in improving cognitive function and overall daily functioning in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Compared to other cholinesterase inhibitors, Almer has a favorable side effect profile and can be used as a first-line treatment option.

Suitable Patient Groups:

Almer tablets are suitable for use in adult patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of Almer in pediatric patients have not been established.

Storage and Shelf Life:

  • Store Almer tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
  • Keep the tablets in the original packaging to protect them from light.
  • Do not use Almer tablets after the expiration date printed on the packaging.

Packaging Description:

Almer tablets are supplied in blister packs containing 30 coated tablets. Each tablet is imprinted with the product name and strength for easy identification.

Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness:

Donepezil, the active ingredient in Almer tablets, has been extensively studied in clinical trials. These studies have consistently shown that donepezil improves cognitive function and helps slow the progression of symptoms in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. A meta-analysis published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease concluded that donepezil treatment is associated with significant cognitive improvement compared to placebo, supporting its use as a standard therapy for Alzheimer’s disease.
