Description
Ciprofloxacin Coated Tablets 250 mg. №10
Composition
Each coated tablet contains 250 mg of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride.
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, preventing DNA supercoiling and replication, thus exerting its bactericidal effect against a wide range of bacteria.
Pharmacological Properties
Ciprofloxacin demonstrates potent antibacterial activity by interfering with the bacterial DNA synthesis process. It is well-absorbed orally and reaches therapeutic concentrations in various tissues and body fluids.
Indications for Use
Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections caused by susceptible pathogens.
Contraindications
Do not use ciprofloxacin if you have a history of hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or any other quinolone antibiotics. Use caution in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use.
Side Effects
Common side effects of ciprofloxacin may include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and rash. Serious side effects such as tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea may occur rarely.
Usage Instructions
The usual dosage of ciprofloxacin is one 250 mg tablet taken orally twice daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Ciprofloxacin offers broad-spectrum coverage against many bacterial pathogens with a lower risk of resistance development compared to other antibiotics in its class.
Suitable Patient Groups
Ciprofloxacin can be used in various patient populations, including adults, children (in specific indications), and the elderly. Dosing adjustments may be necessary based on renal function in elderly patients.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store ciprofloxacin tablets at controlled room temperature away from moisture and heat. Check the packaging for the expiration date and do not use the product beyond the stated shelf life.
Packaging Description
Ciprofloxacin tablets are typically packaged in blister packs to ensure product integrity and protection from external factors. Each pack contains 10 coated tablets of 250 mg strength.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness
Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of ciprofloxacin in treating various bacterial infections, highlighting its role as a valuable therapeutic option with a favorable safety profile. The drug’s mechanism of action and pharmacokinetic properties contribute to its clinical effectiveness.
