Description
Efferalgan (Paracetamol) Effervescent Tablets 500 mg. №16
Ingredients
Each effervescent tablet contains 500 mg of paracetamol.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol, the active ingredient in Efferalgan, is a centrally acting analgesic and antipyretic agent. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase in the brain, thus reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins which are mediators of pain and fever.
Pharmacological Properties
Paracetamol exhibits analgesic and antipyretic properties without significant anti-inflammatory effects. It is well-absorbed after oral administration and reaches peak plasma concentrations within 30 to 60 minutes. Paracetamol is metabolized in the liver and excreted primarily in the urine.
Indications for Use
Efferalgan effervescent tablets are indicated for the relief of mild to moderate pain conditions including headache, toothache, musculoskeletal pain, and fever associated with various illnesses.
Contraindications
Do not use Efferalgan if you have a known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any other components of the tablets. Patients with severe hepatic impairment or severe renal insufficiency should seek medical advice before using this medication.
Side Effects
Common side effects of paracetamol include nausea, vomiting, and allergic reactions such as skin rash. In rare cases, it may cause liver damage especially with overdose. Immediate medical attention is necessary if any serious adverse reactions occur.
Usage Instructions
Dissolve the tablet in a glass of water before oral administration. Avoid crushing or chewing the tablet. The recommended dosage for adults and children over 12 years is 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed, not exceeding 8 tablets in a 24-hour period.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Paracetamol is preferred over nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in individuals with peptic ulcer disease or a history of gastrointestinal bleeding due to its lower risk of causing gastrointestinal irritation and bleeding. It also lacks the platelet inhibition effects associated with NSAIDs.
Suitable Patient Groups
Efferalgan is suitable for use in children over 12 years and adults including the elderly population. However, dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with hepatic or renal impairment to prevent adverse effects.
Storage and Shelf Life
- Store Efferalgan tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
