Description
Felodip (Felodipine) Tablets with Prolonged Release 5 mg. №30
Composition
Active ingredient: Felodipine 5 mg.
Other ingredients: lactose monohydrate, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose.
Mechanism of Action
Felodipine is a calcium channel blocker that selectively inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. By blocking calcium channels, felodipine reduces peripheral vascular resistance, dilates coronary and systemic arteries, and decreases myocardial oxygen demand.
Pharmacological Properties
Felodipine exerts its antihypertensive effects by causing relaxation of vascular smooth muscle, resulting in vasodilation and decreased systemic vascular resistance. It leads to a reduction in blood pressure without significant negative inotropic effects on the heart.
Indications for Use
Felodip tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). They help to lower blood pressure and reduce the workload on the heart by improving coronary blood flow and reducing peripheral vascular resistance.
Contraindications
Do not use Felodip tablets if:
- You are allergic to felodipine or any other ingredients in the tablets.
- You have a history of heart diseases or liver problems.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Felodip tablets may include headache, flushing, dizziness, peripheral edema, and palpitations. In rare cases, felodipine may cause more serious adverse effects such as hypotension, tachycardia, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Usage Instructions
Dosage: 1 tablet daily, preferably at the same time each day. Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow whole with a glass of water.
Directions:
- Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
- Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Felodip tablets.
- Monitor your blood pressure regularly.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Felodipine with prolonged release offers the advantage of once-daily dosing, providing consistent blood pressure control throughout the day. Its selective action on calcium channels results in effective antihypertensive effects with a lower incidence of negative cardiac effects compared to non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers.
Suitable Patient Groups
Felodip tablets are suitable for adult patients with hypertension requiring long-term treatment. The dosage may need adjustment in elderly patients due to age-related changes in drug metabolism and renal function. It is not recommended for use in pregnant women or individuals with severe hepatic impairment.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Felodip tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep them in the original packaging to protect from moisture. The shelf life of the product is mentioned on the packaging and should be strictly adhered to.
Packaging Description
Felodip (Felodipine) Tablets with Prolonged Release 5 mg are available in packs containing 30 tablets. Each tablet is film-coated for ease of swallowing and protection from degradation.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness
Felodip (felodipine) tablets have shown significant efficacy in managing hypertension in various clinical studies. A study published in the Journal of Hypertension demonstrated that felodipine effectively reduced blood pressure levels in patients with essential hypertension over a 12-week period.
