Description
Janumet (Metformin + Sitagliptin) Coated Tablets 50 mg/500 mg. №56
Ingredients:
Each tablet contains 50 mg of sitagliptin and 500 mg of metformin.
Mechanism of Action:
Janumet combines the anti-hyperglycemic properties of metformin and sitagliptin. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, increases insulin release in response to meals and decreases glucagon levels postprandially.
Pharmacological Properties:
The synergistic action of metformin and sitagliptin in Janumet helps in lowering blood glucose levels by targeting multiple pathways involved in glucose metabolism. Metformin primarily acts on hepatic glucose production while sitagliptin enhances insulin secretion and reduces glucagon levels.
Indications for Use:
Janumet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Contraindications:
Janumet should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, or a known hypersensitivity to metformin or sitagliptin.
Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea may occur with Janumet use. These symptoms typically subside with continued treatment.
- Regular monitoring of renal function is advised to prevent the rare occurrence of lactic acidosis.
Usage Instructions:
The recommended dosage of Janumet is one tablet taken twice daily with meals. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew them.
Benefits Compared to Analogues:
Janumet offers the advantage of dual therapy with metformin and sitagliptin, providing a comprehensive approach to managing blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes patients. The combination targets both insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretion, leading to improved glycemic control.
Suitable Patient Groups:
Janumet is suitable for adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Dosing adjustments may be necessary for elderly individuals or those with specific renal function considerations.
Storage and Shelf Life:
Store Janumet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Check the packaging for the expiration date and do not use the product beyond the stated shelf life.
Packaging Description:
Each package of Janumet contains 56 coated tablets, with each tablet clearly labeled with the dosage strength and ingredients.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness:
Studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Janumet in improving glycemic control by reducing fasting and postprandial plasma glucose levels. Clinical trials have shown a significant reduction in HbA1c levels and improved beta-cell function with Janumet use compared to metformin alone. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism supports the benefits of Janumet in managing type 2 diabetes.
