Ingredients:
- Each 100 ml contains 15g of Mannitol USP, Water for Injection
- May contain Hydrochloric Acid and/or Sodium Hydroxide for pH adjustment
Dosage:
The dosage is determined by the healthcare provider based on the patient’s condition and needs. It is typically administered intravenously under medical supervision.
Indications:
Mannit solution is indicated for the reduction of intracranial pressure and treatment of cerebral edema. It is also used as an osmotic diuretic in certain kidney conditions.
Contraindications:
Do not use Mannit solution in patients with severe renal impairment, congestive heart failure, or pulmonary edema. It is contraindicated in cases of anuria and severe dehydration.
Directions:
Administer Mannit solution intravenously at the prescribed rate and dosage. Monitor electrolyte levels and renal function during treatment.
Scientific Evidence:
Mannitol, the active ingredient in Mannit solution, exerts its osmotic effect by drawing water into the renal tubules, increasing urine flow and reducing intracranial pressure. Studies have shown its efficacy in reducing cerebral edema and improving outcomes in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery).
Additional Information:
- Assess the patient’s fluid and electrolyte status before initiating Mannit solution therapy
- Adverse effects may include electrolyte imbalances and dehydration
- Mannit solution has been widely used in clinical practice for its rapid onset of action and effectiveness in managing intracranial pressure
