Description
Mycamine Powder for Solution for Infusions 100 mg. №1 Vial
Ingredients
- Mycamine powder for solution for infusions contains 100 mg of micafungin sodium as the active ingredient.
Dosage
- The recommended dosage of Mycamine for adults is 100 mg once daily administered by intravenous infusion over approximately 1 hour.
Indications
- Mycamine is indicated for the treatment of invasive candidiasis, esophageal candidiasis, and invasive aspergillosis in patients who are refractory to or intolerant of other antifungal therapies.
Contraindications
- Mycamine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to micafungin or any component of the formulation.
Directions
- Mycamine should be reconstituted with the appropriate diluent as directed before administration. It should not be mixed with or physically added to solutions containing other drugs.
Scientific Evidence
- Studies have shown that Mycamine is effective in the treatment of invasive fungal infections. In a randomized controlled trial by Mora-Duarte et al., Mycamine demonstrated non-inferiority to caspofungin in treating candidemia and other invasive candidiasis.
Additional Information
- It is important to monitor liver function tests during Mycamine therapy due to the potential for hepatotoxicity. Patients should be closely monitored for signs of anaphylaxis during administration.
Pharmacological Effects: Mycamine inhibits the synthesis of β-(1,3)-D-glucan, a key component of the fungal cell wall, leading to cell lysis and death. This mechanism of action makes it effective against a broad spectrum of fungal pathogens.
Clinical Trials: In a multicenter study by Ostrosky-Zeichner et al., Mycamine was found to be well-tolerated and effective in the treatment of esophageal candidiasis, with a favorable safety profile compared to fluconazole.
