Scientific Evidence
Indapamide, the active ingredient in Ravel SR tablets, is a thiazide-like diuretic that works by increasing the excretion of sodium and water by the kidneys. Studies have shown that indapamide is effective in lowering blood pressure and reducing edema. Research published in the Journal of Hypertension demonstrated that indapamide has a sustained antihypertensive effect and is well-tolerated by patients.
Additional Information
It is important to monitor electrolyte levels regularly while taking Ravel SR tablets, especially potassium levels. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience symptoms like muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, or excessive thirst while on this medication.
Pharmacological Effects
Indapamide acts primarily by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys. This leads to increased excretion of sodium and water, resulting in decreased blood volume and reduced peripheral resistance, ultimately lowering blood pressure. Additionally, the vasodilatory effects of indapamide contribute to its antihypertensive action.
