Indications.

  • community-acquired pneumonia
    complicated infections of the skin and soft tissues.
  • (Regarding the above infectious diseases, levofloxacin should be prescribed only in cases of insufficient effectiveness of other antibacterial drugs, which are mainly used for the initial treatment of these infections) acute pyelonephritis and complicated urinary tract infections;
  • chronic bacterial prostatitis, pulmonary anthrax: post-exposure prophylaxis and treatment.

Consideration should be given to official recommendations on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents.

Contraindications.

Levofloxacin (Abiflox) should not be prescribed in the following cases:

  • hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or to other quinolones or to any other components of the drug
  • adverse reactions from the tendons after prior use of quinolones;
  • epilepsy
  • children’s age (up to 18 years);
  • During pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Method of application and dose.

A sensitivity test must be carried out before use. The drug should be administered slowly intravenously 1-2 times a day by drip infusion. The dosage depends on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the sensitivity to the drug of the possible pathogen. Treatment with levofloxacin after initial use of its intravenous form may be completed with the oral form, provided such treatment is acceptable for the individual patient. Given the bioequivalence of parenteral and oral dosage forms, the same dose can be used.

As with the use of other antibacterial agents, it is recommended to continue treatment with the drug for at least 48-72 hours after the normalization of body temperature or the destruction of pathogens confirmed by microbiological tests.

Children.

The use of the drug is contraindicated to children (under 18 years of age), since damage to the articular cartilage is not excluded.
