Scientific Evidence
Accuzid-20 combines the antihypertensive effects of quinapril, an ACE inhibitor, with the diuretic properties of hydrochlorothiazide. Studies have shown that this combination therapy is more effective in lowering blood pressure compared to monotherapy with either drug alone. Research published in the Journal of Hypertension demonstrated that the combination of an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic is a first-line treatment for hypertension due to its synergistic effects on blood pressure control.
Additional Information
It is important to monitor electrolyte levels and renal function regularly while taking Accuzid-20. This medication may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially during the first few days of treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
Pharmacological Effects: Quinapril, an ACE inhibitor, works by inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, promotes diuresis and helps lower blood pressure by reducing plasma volume.
Clinical Trials: Clinical trials have shown that the combination of quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide is well-tolerated and effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients. A study published in the American Journal of Hypertension reported significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure with this combination therapy.
