Almer is a drug used in the treatment of dementia due to the presence of nootropic, cerebrovasodilating, antihypoxic and psychostimulant pharmacological effects.
Pharmacodynamics
Almer is a selective and reversible blocker of acetylcholinesterase, the main type of cholinesterase in the brain. Having a blocking effect on cholinesterase in the brain, donepezil (the active ingredient of the drug) prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine, through which nerve impulses are transmitted to the central nervous system. The blocking of acetylcholinesterase under the action of donepezil occurs 1000 times more intensively than the blocking of butyrylcholinesterase, which is located in the body (excluding the central nervous system).
The degree of inhibitory effect on acetylcholinesterase is assessed in erythrocyte membranes. With a single application of Almera at a dose of 5 mg, it is 63.6%, 10 mg – 77.3%.
