Description
Amoxiclav (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) Powder Solution for Injections 500 mg/100 mg. N5 Vial
Composition
Each vial contains: Amoxicillin (500 mg) and Clavulanic Acid (100 mg).
Mechanism of Action
Pharmacological Properties: Amoxiclav combines amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic, with clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This synergistic combination extends the spectrum of action of amoxicillin, overcoming bacterial resistance mechanisms and providing enhanced antibacterial activity against a wide range of pathogens.
Indications for Use
Indications: Amoxiclav is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, and gynecological infections.
Contraindications
Contraindications: Do not administer Amoxiclav to individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with a history of allergic reactions and consult a healthcare provider before use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with liver disorders, or renal impairment.
Side Effects
Adverse Reactions: Common side effects of Amoxiclav may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, skin rashes, and allergic reactions. If severe adverse effects manifest, discontinue treatment and seek immediate medical attention.
Usage Instructions
Dosage and Administration: The typical dosing regimen involves intravenous administration of one vial every 8 hours. The solution should be administered slowly over 3-4 minutes to minimize the risk of infusion-related reactions. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment.
Benefits over Analogues
Advantages: Amoxiclav offers a broad spectrum of antibacterial coverage due to the synergistic effects of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. This combination therapy is effective against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, enhancing treatment outcomes in complicated infections where conventional antibiotics may be ineffective.
Suitable Patient Groups
Patient Population: Amoxiclav is suitable for use in adults, adolescents, and pediatric patients for the management of bacterial infections. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in elderly individuals and patients with renal impairment to prevent drug-related complications.
Storage and Packaging
Storage Conditions: Store the vials in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid freezing the solution. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use expired products. Each package contains 5 vials of the powder solution for injections.
Clinical Evidence
Scientific Validation: Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of Amoxiclav in treating various bacterial infections. Research published in reputable journals, such as the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, has highlighted the effectiveness of amoxicillin-clavulanate in managing complex infections with favorable outcomes.
