Pharmacological Effects: Amoxiclav combines amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic, with clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This combination extends the spectrum of action of amoxicillin to include bacteria normally resistant to it, providing a broader antibacterial coverage.
Clinical Trials: Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of Amoxiclav in various infections, showing comparable or superior effectiveness compared to other antibiotics. A study published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases found that Amoxiclav was highly effective in treating respiratory tract infections.
