Description
Aprovel (Irbesartan) Coated Tablets 150 mg. №28
Ingredients
Each tablet contains 150 mg of Irbesartan.
Mechanism of Action
Irbesartan is a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker that inhibits the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by blocking its binding to the AT1 receptor. This results in vasodilation and reduced secretion of aldosterone, leading to decreased blood pressure.
Pharmacological Properties
Irbesartan is well-absorbed orally and undergoes significant first-pass metabolism to form an active metabolite. It has a half-life of approximately 11-15 hours and is primarily excreted in the urine and feces. Irbesartan’s pharmacological effects include lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events.
Indications for Use
Aprovel (Irbesartan) is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults to lower blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Contraindications
Do not use Aprovel if you are pregnant, have severe liver disease, have a history of angioedema related to previous treatment with ACE inhibitors, or are allergic to Irbesartan. Use with caution in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or renal artery stenosis in a solitary kidney.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Aprovel (Irbesartan) may include dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, hyperkalemia, and renal impairment. Rare but serious side effects may include angioedema, renal failure, and hepatic impairment. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any adverse reactions.
Usage Instructions
The recommended dosage of Aprovel is one 150 mg tablet taken orally once daily. It can be administered with or without food. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment or those taking concomitant diuretics.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Irbesartan has shown comparable efficacy to other angiotensin II receptor blockers and ACE inhibitors in lowering blood pressure. It offers the advantage of a lower risk of certain adverse effects commonly associated with other antihypertensive medications.
Suitable Patient Groups
Aprovel is suitable for use in adult patients with hypertension. It is not recommended for use in pregnant women, patients with severe liver disease, or individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Irbesartan.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Aprovel tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication in its original packaging to protect it from light. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use the tablets if expired.
