Resistant to Schizophrenia Therapy
Azaleptol should be prescribed only to those patients with schizophrenia who are resistant to therapy or tolerant to standard antipsychotics according to the following definitions.
Resistance to standard antipsychotics is a condition where previous treatment with standard antipsychotics at the appropriate dosage and for a sufficient period of time did not lead to adequate clinical improvement.
Intolerance to standard antipsychotics is a condition when severe uncontrolled side effects of a neurological nature (extrapyramidal symptoms or tardive dyskinesia) occur that make effective antipsychotic therapy using standard antipsychotics impossible.
Risk of recurrence of suicide attempts
Azaleptol is indicated for a long-term reduction in the risk of recurrence of suicidal behavior in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, which are assessed against this risk based on their medical history and current clinical picture.
Psychotic Disorders During Parkinson’s Disease Therapy
Azaleptol is indicated for the treatment of psychotic disorders that develop during Parkinson’s disease, if standard therapy is ineffective.
The ineffectiveness of standard therapy is defined as the lack of control over psychotic symptoms and / or the appearance of a functionally unacceptable increase in the severity of motor symptoms after taking the following measures:
withdrawal of anticholinergics, including tricyclic antidepressants;
an attempt to reduce the dose of dopaminergic antiparkinsonian drugs.
