Description
Cardicet-Retard (Isosorbide Dinitrate) Prolonged Release Tablets 40 mg. №50
Composition
The active ingredient in Cardicet-Retard is isosorbide dinitrate. Each tablet contains 40 mg of isosorbide dinitrate.
Mechanism of Action
Isosorbide dinitrate is a vasodilator that works by relaxing the smooth muscles in blood vessels, leading to vasodilation and increased blood flow. This mechanism reduces the workload of the heart and improves oxygen supply to the heart muscle.
Pharmacological Properties
Cardicet-Retard with isosorbide dinitrate exhibits vasodilatory effects on both arterial and venous blood vessels. It reduces preload and afterload on the heart, thereby decreasing myocardial oxygen demand. The prolonged release formulation ensures sustained therapeutic levels of the drug in the body.
Indications for Use
Cardicet-Retard is indicated for the prevention and treatment of angina pectoris, including stable angina and variant angina (Prinzmetal’s angina).
Contraindications
Cardicet-Retard is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to isosorbide dinitrate or any other components of the product. It should not be used in patients with severe anemia, hypotension, constrictive pericarditis, or those who have recently taken phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Cardicet-Retard may include headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, and hypotension. Rare but serious side effects may include methemoglobinemia, especially in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
Usage Instructions
The recommended dosage of Cardicet-Retard is one tablet (40 mg) taken twice daily. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water, on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before meals. Do not chew or crush the tablets.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Cardicet-Retard offers the advantage of prolonged release formulation, ensuring a sustained therapeutic effect with reduced dosing frequency compared to immediate-release formulations of isosorbide dinitrate. This leads to improved patient compliance and potentially better symptom control.
Suitable Patient Groups
Cardicet-Retard can be used in adult patients, including the elderly, for the management of angina pectoris. It is not recommended for use in children due to limited data on safety and efficacy in this population.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Cardicet-Retard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tablets in the original packaging to protect them from moisture. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use the product beyond the stated shelf life.
Packaging Description
Cardicet-Retard is available in packs containing 50 tablets. Each tablet is film-coated for ease of swallowing and protection from environmental factors.
