Description
Cardosal Plus (Olmesartan Medoxomil/Hydrochlorothiazide) 20/12.5 Coated Tablets №28
Composition
Each Cardosal Plus tablet contains two active ingredients: 20mg of olmesartan medoxomil and 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide. These ingredients work synergistically to manage hypertension effectively.
Mechanism of Action
Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules, resulting in increased excretion of sodium and water.
Pharmacological Properties
Cardosal Plus combines the antihypertensive effects of olmesartan medoxomil with the diuretic properties of hydrochlorothiazide, resulting in a comprehensive approach to managing hypertension. Olmesartan medoxomil selectively blocks the angiotensin II receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. Hydrochlorothiazide enhances diuresis, reducing plasma volume and cardiac output.
Indications for Use
Cardosal Plus is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults who require combined therapy for optimal blood pressure control. It is prescribed when monotherapy with either component is insufficient to achieve target blood pressure levels.
Contraindications
- Cardosal Plus is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment due to the risk of further deterioration of renal function.
- Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to olmesartan medoxomil, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamides should not use this medication.
- Use of Cardosal Plus is not recommended in pregnant women as it may cause fetal harm. It is also contraindicated during breastfeeding.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Cardosal Plus may include dizziness, hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, and renal dysfunction. Patients should consult their healthcare provider if any adverse reactions occur.
Usage Instructions
The recommended dosage of Cardosal Plus is one tablet per day. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, preferably at the same time each day. It is important to follow the prescribed regimen to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Cardosal Plus offers the advantage of dual therapy in a single tablet, combining the complementary mechanisms of olmesartan medoxomil and hydrochlorothiazide. This combination provides enhanced efficacy in managing hypertension compared to individual components or other antihypertensive agents.
Suitable Patient Groups
Cardosal Plus is suitable for adult patients with essential hypertension who require combination therapy to achieve target blood pressure goals. It is not recommended for use in children, and caution should be exercised in elderly patients due to the potential for age-related physiological changes.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Cardosal Plus in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from moisture. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use the medication if it has expired.
