Description
Cardura (Doxazosin) Tablets 1 mg. №30
Composition
The active ingredient in Cardura is Doxazosin Mesylate. Each tablet contains 1 mg of Doxazosin Mesylate.
Mechanism of Action
Doxazosin is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It acts by relaxing smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck, leading to improved urine flow and reduced symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Additionally, it dilates arterioles and veins, lowering blood pressure through peripheral vasodilation.
Pharmacological Properties
Doxazosin selectively inhibits the alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the prostate, bladder neck, and blood vessels. This results in decreased smooth muscle tone, leading to improved urinary symptoms in benign prostatic hyperplasia and reduced peripheral vascular resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure.
Indications for Use
Cardura is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It is effective in managing both conditions by lowering blood pressure and improving urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement.
Contraindications
Cardura is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to quinazolines, doxazosin, or any other components of the product. It should not be used in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension or syncope related to alpha-blocker therapy.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Cardura include dizziness, fatigue, headache, and postural hypotension. Rare but serious side effects may include priapism and angioedema. Patients should seek medical attention if they experience any severe adverse reactions.
Usage Instructions
The recommended starting dose of Cardura is 1 mg once daily. The dosage may be titrated based on the patient’s response. It should be taken orally with or without food. Patients should swallow the tablet whole and not crush, cut, or chew it.
- Note: Cardura may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, especially at the beginning of treatment. Initiation of therapy should be done under medical supervision.
- Warning: If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. However, if it is close to the next scheduled dose, the missed dose should be skipped. Doubling the dose is not recommended.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Cardura offers the advantage of dual efficacy in treating both hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Its selective alpha-1 adrenergic blockade leads to improved outcomes with a lower risk of adverse effects compared to non-selective alpha blockers.
Suitable Patient Groups
Cardura is suitable for adult patients with hypertension or benign prostatic hyperplasia. It is generally well-tolerated in elderly patients but should be used with caution due to the risk of orthostatic hypotension. The safety and efficacy of Cardura in children have not been established.
Storage and Shelf Life
Cardura should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat. The shelf life of the product is indicated on the packaging and should be checked before use.
Packaging Description
Cardura is available in packs containing 30 tablets of 1 mg strength. The packaging is designed to protect the tablets from environmental factors and ensure product integrity until consumption.
