Description
Casodex (Bicalutamide) Coated Tablets 150 mg. №28
Composition
The active ingredient in Casodex is Bicalutamide. Each coated tablet contains 150 mg of Bicalutamide.
Mechanism of Action
Bicalutamide is a nonsteroidal anti-androgen that competitively inhibits the action of androgens by binding to the androgen receptor. This action blocks the effects of testosterone on the prostate cancer cells.
Pharmacological Properties
Bicalutamide has high affinity for androgen receptors. It does not possess any other hormonal activity. The drug is well-absorbed after oral administration and extensively metabolized in the liver.
Indications for Use
Casodex is indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. It is used in combination with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analog for maximum therapeutic effect.
Contraindications
Casodex is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Bicalutamide or any of the tablet’s ingredients. It should not be used by women, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, men taking terfenadine, astemizole, or cisapride should avoid Casodex due to potential drug interactions.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Casodex may include hot flashes, asthenia, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Rare but serious side effects may include liver function abnormalities and interstitial lung disease.

Benefits Compared to Analogues
Casodex offers a well-established safety profile and efficacy in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Compared to other anti-androgen medications, Casodex has shown favorable outcomes in clinical trials with manageable side effects.
Suitable Patient Groups
Casodex is suitable for adult male patients with advanced prostate cancer. It is not indicated for use in women or pediatric populations. Special caution should be exercised when prescribing Casodex to elderly patients or those with hepatic impairment.
