Description
Cedoxim (Cefpodoxime) Powder for Oral Suspension 40 mg/5 ml – 100 ml Vial №1
Composition
The active ingredient in Cedoxim is Cefpodoxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Each 5 ml of the oral suspension contains 40 mg of Cefpodoxime.
Mechanism of Action
Cefpodoxime exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death.
Pharmacological Properties
Cedoxim exhibits broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It shows stability against beta-lactamases, enhancing its efficacy against resistant strains.
Indications for Use
Cedoxim is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, and urinary tract infections caused by susceptible pathogens.
Contraindications
Cedoxim is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime or other cephalosporins. It should not be used in individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Cedoxim may include gastrointestinal disturbances, allergic reactions like rash or itching, and rarely, pseudomembranous colitis. Monitoring for adverse reactions is recommended during therapy.
Usage Instructions
Prior to administration, the vial should be shaken well. The dosage of Cedoxim is individualized based on the infection’s severity and type. For adults, the typical dose ranges from 200 mg to 400 mg daily, divided into two equal doses.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Cedoxim offers enhanced stability against beta-lactamases, widening its spectrum of activity compared to earlier cephalosporins. Its dosing regimen allows for convenient twice-daily administration, improving patient compliance.
Suitable Patient Groups
Cedoxim is generally safe for use in adults, including elderly patients, and pediatric populations. Dose adjustments may be necessary in individuals with renal impairment based on creatinine clearance levels.
Storage and Shelf Life
Cedoxim should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and light. The oral suspension has a shelf life of X months when stored as directed.
Packaging Description
Cedoxim is supplied in a 100 ml vial, each containing the powder for oral suspension. The packaging includes a measuring device to ensure accurate dosing.
