Description

Ceppra (Levetiracetam) Coated Tablets 250 mg. №60

Composition

The active ingredient in Ceppra is levetiracetam. Each coated tablet contains 250 mg of levetiracetam.

Mechanism of Action

Levetiracetam exerts its antiepileptic effects by binding to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) in the brain, which modulates neurotransmitter release and inhibits abnormal neuronal activity.

Pharmacological Properties

Levetiracetam is a racetam derivative with a unique mechanism of action. It exhibits high bioavailability and minimal protein binding. The drug is predominantly excreted unchanged in the urine.

Indications for Use

Ceppra is indicated for the treatment of partial onset seizures in adults and children 1 month of age and older, as well as myoclonic seizures in adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older.

Contraindications

Ceppra is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or any of the inactive ingredients in the tablet. Special caution should be exercised in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders.

Side Effects

The common side effects of Ceppra include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and behavioral changes. Rare but serious side effects may include severe skin reactions and hematological abnormalities.

Usage Instructions

The recommended starting dose of Ceppra is 500 mg twice daily. Dosage adjustments should be made based on individual response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 3000 mg per day. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water, with or without food.

Benefits Compared to Analogues

Ceppra offers the advantage of a favorable side effect profile and a lower potential for drug interactions compared to some traditional antiepileptic drugs.

Suitable Patient Groups

Ceppra is suitable for use in various patient groups, including children, adults, and the elderly. Dosing adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment.

Storage and Shelf Life

Ceppra tablets should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat. The shelf life of the product is typically 24 months from the date of manufacture.

Packaging Description

Ceppra tablets are packaged in blister packs to ensure product integrity and protection from light. Each pack contains 60 coated tablets of 250 mg strength.
