Description
Cerucal (Metoclopramide) Ampoules 10 mg. 2 ml. №10
Composition
The main active ingredient in Cerucal is metoclopramide, a potent antiemetic and gastroprokinetic agent.
Mechanism of Action
Metoclopramide exerts its effects by antagonizing dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the central nervous system, thereby increasing gastric motility and reducing nausea and vomiting.
Pharmacological Properties
Metoclopramide acts as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, leading to enhanced gastrointestinal motility and accelerated gastric emptying.
Indications for Use
- Prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting.
- Management of nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
- Treatment of gastroparesis and other conditions associated with delayed gastric emptying.
Contraindications
Cerucal is contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation, pheochromocytoma, epilepsy, or hypersensitivity to metoclopramide.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Cerucal may include drowsiness, restlessness, extrapyramidal symptoms, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Rare but serious side effects may include tardive dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Usage Instructions
Administer Cerucal as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The standard dosage is 10 mg (1 ampoule), given intramuscularly or intravenously. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on individual patient response and medical judgment.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Cerucal offers a distinct advantage over other antiemetic agents due to its dual mechanism of action targeting dopamine and serotonin receptors, providing effective relief for a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders.
Suitable Patient Groups
Cerucal can be used in various patient populations including adults, children (under medical supervision), and the elderly, with appropriate dosage adjustments based on age and overall health status.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Cerucal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Check the expiry date on the packaging and do not use the product if it has expired. The shelf life of Cerucal is typically indicated on the packaging.
