Scientific Evidence:
Citalopram, the active ingredient in Cipramil, is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Studies have shown that citalopram is effective in the treatment of depression and has a favorable side effect profile compared to other antidepressants.
Additional Information:
It is important to note that Cipramil may take several weeks to exert its full therapeutic effect. Patients should be monitored closely for any signs of worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially at the beginning of treatment or when doses are adjusted.
Pharmacological Effects:
Citalopram inhibits the reuptake of serotonin in the brain, which leads to increased levels of this neurotransmitter. By enhancing serotonin transmission, citalopram helps regulate mood and emotions. This mechanism of action is believed to underlie its antidepressant effects.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness:
Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of citalopram in the treatment of depression. In comparative studies, citalopram has shown similar effectiveness to other SSRIs with a more favorable side effect profile in some cases. However, individual responses to antidepressant medications can vary, and the choice of drug should be based on the patient’s specific needs and tolerability.
Overall, Cipramil (citalopram) coated tablets 20 mg. №28 offer a well-established treatment option for depression with a proven track record of efficacy and safety in clinical practice.
