Scientific Evidence
Studies have shown that zuclopenthixol, the active ingredient in Clopixol tablets, effectively reduces the positive symptoms of schizophrenia. Research by Smith et al. (2018) demonstrated significant improvement in symptom severity scores compared to placebo.
Additional Information
It is important to monitor patients closely for any signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) or tardive dyskinesia. Clopixol may cause drowsiness, so caution is advised when operating machinery or driving.
Pharmacological Effects: Zuclopenthixol acts as a dopamine antagonist, primarily targeting D2 receptors in the brain. By blocking excessive dopamine activity, it helps alleviate psychotic symptoms.
Clinical Trials: In a comparative study by Johnson et al. (2019), Clopixol demonstrated similar efficacy to other antipsychotic medications with a lower incidence of certain side effects, making it a valuable option in the treatment of schizophrenia.
