Description
Coriol (Carvedilol) Tablets 12.5 mg. №28
Ingredients
Active ingredient: Carvedilol 12.5 mg.
Other ingredients: lactose monohydrate, maize starch, povidone K30, crospovidone, magnesium stearate.
Mechanism of Action
Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-blocker with additional alpha-blocking properties. It works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing heart rate and blood pressure. The alpha-blocking properties help dilate blood vessels, improving blood flow and reducing strain on the heart.
Pharmacological Properties
Carvedilol exerts its pharmacological effects by blocking both beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to decreased cardiac workload and oxygen demand. It also inhibits alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, resulting in vasodilation.
Indications for Use
Coriol tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction.
Contraindications
Do not use Coriol tablets if:
- You are allergic to carvedilol or any other ingredients in the product.
- You have severe liver disease.
- You have asthma or other breathing problems.
Side Effects
Common side effects of carvedilol may include dizziness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and slow heart rate. Serious side effects like worsening heart failure or bronchospasm may occur in some individuals.
Usage Instructions
Dosage: The usual dose is 12.5 mg twice daily. Dosage may be increased gradually to 25 mg twice daily.
Administration: Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablets.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Carvedilol has shown superior efficacy in reducing mortality and hospitalizations in heart failure patients compared to other beta-blockers. Its dual mechanism of action makes it a preferred choice for managing hypertension and heart failure.
Suitable Patient Groups
Coriol tablets are suitable for adult patients with hypertension, heart failure, or post-myocardial infarction left ventricular dysfunction. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for elderly patients or those with renal impairment.
Storage and Shelf Life
Storage: Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
Shelf Life: Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use the product after the specified date.
Packaging Description
Coriol tablets are supplied in a package containing 28 tablets of 12.5 mg each. The packaging is designed to protect the tablets from environmental factors and ensure product integrity.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness
Carvedilol has been extensively studied in various clinical trials, demonstrating its efficacy in treating hypertension, heart failure, and post-myocardial infarction patients. Research has shown that carvedilol reduces mortality and hospitalizations in heart failure patients and improves left ventricular function.
Clinical trials, such as the COMET trial, have confirmed the benefits of carvedilol in reducing cardiovascular events and improving outcomes in heart failure patients. The comparison with other beta-blockers has shown a significant reduction in mortality with carvedilol.
