Scientific Evidence
Eplerenone, the active ingredient in Decriz tablets, is a selective aldosterone blocker that has shown efficacy in numerous clinical trials. Studies have demonstrated its role in reducing cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients with heart failure and left ventricular dysfunction post-myocardial infarction. The EMPHASIS-HF trial highlighted the benefits of eplerenone in improving outcomes in heart failure patients.
Additional Information
Decriz (eplerenone) coated tablets should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children. It is important to regularly monitor potassium levels while taking this medication, as eplerenone can cause hyperkalemia.
Pharmacologically, eplerenone works by blocking the effects of aldosterone, a hormone that can contribute to heart failure and hypertension. By antagonizing aldosterone receptors, eplerenone helps reduce sodium and water retention, thereby lowering blood pressure and improving cardiac function.
Compared to similar drugs like spironolactone, eplerenone offers a more selective action with potentially fewer side effects related to hormonal imbalances. This selectivity makes eplerenone a valuable option in the management of hypertension and heart failure.
