Scientific Evidence
Gliclazide, the active ingredient in Diabeton MR tablets, is a sulfonylurea that works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. Studies have shown that gliclazide is effective in controlling blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Research published in the Journal of Diabetes Investigation demonstrated the efficacy of gliclazide in reducing HbA1c levels and improving overall glycemic control.
Additional Information
It is important to monitor blood sugar levels regularly while taking Diabeton (gliclazide) MR tablets to ensure optimal control of diabetes. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
Pharmacological Effects
Gliclazide acts by binding to specific receptors on the pancreatic beta cells, leading to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. This mechanism triggers the release of insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, gliclazide has been shown to have antioxidant properties, potentially offering additional benefits in diabetes management.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness
In a comparative study published in the Journal of Diabetes Research, gliclazide was found to be as effective as other sulfonylureas in lowering blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of diabetic complications. The study highlighted the favorable safety profile of gliclazide compared to other medications in its class, making it a valuable option for the management of type 2 diabetes.
- Always consult your healthcare provider before starting or changing any diabetes medication.
- Store Diabeton (gliclazide) MR tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
