Description
Dicor Long (Isosorbide Dinitrate) Tablets with Prolonged Release 40 mg. №50
Composition
Each tablet contains 40 mg of isosorbide dinitrate.
Mechanism of Action
Isosorbide dinitrate acts as a vasodilator by releasing nitric oxide in the blood vessels, leading to relaxation of smooth muscles and dilation of coronary arteries. This mechanism reduces cardiac preload and afterload, decreasing the oxygen demand of the heart muscle.
Pharmacological Properties
Isosorbide dinitrate belongs to the group of organic nitrates. It dilates veins more than arteries, reducing cardiac oxygen consumption and increasing oxygen supply to the heart muscle. The prolonged-release formulation ensures a sustained therapeutic effect over an extended period.
Indications for Use
Dicor Long tablets are indicated for the prevention of angina pectoris, including chronic stable angina and variant angina (Prinzmetal’s angina).
Contraindications
Avoid using Dicor Long in individuals with severe hypotension, hypovolemia, constrictive pericarditis, pericardial tamponade, or those who are hypersensitive to isosorbide dinitrate.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, hypotension, flushing, and nausea. Severe side effects such as methemoglobinemia or paradoxical bradycardia may occur rarely.
Usage Instructions
The typical dosage is one tablet (40 mg) taken orally twice daily, with a 12-hour interval between doses. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Dicor Long offers the advantage of prolonged release, providing more consistent protection against angina episodes compared to immediate-release formulations. The sustained therapeutic effect may lead to improved patient compliance and symptom control.
Suitable Patient Groups
Dicor Long is suitable for adult patients with angina pectoris. Caution is advised when prescribing to elderly individuals or patients with hepatic or renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established.
Storage Conditions and Shelf Life
Store Dicor Long tablets in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Keep them in the original packaging to protect from moisture. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use the tablets beyond that date.
Packaging Description
Dicor Long is available in a pack containing 50 tablets of 40 mg each. The packaging is designed to maintain the stability and quality of the tablets throughout the shelf life.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness
Studies have shown that isosorbide dinitrate in Dicor Long effectively prevents angina attacks by reducing myocardial oxygen demand and increasing coronary blood flow. The extended-release formulation ensures a sustained therapeutic effect, leading to improved exercise tolerance and quality of life in patients with stable angina.
