Description
Diovan (valsartan) Coated Tablets 80 mg. №14
Ingredients:
Each tablet contains 80 mg of valsartan.
Mechanism of Action:
Valsartan acts as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to its receptors in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland, resulting in vasodilation and inhibition of aldosterone secretion.
Pharmacological Properties:
By inhibiting the effects of angiotensin II, valsartan leads to a reduction in peripheral resistance, cardiac output, and blood pressure. It does not exhibit agonist activity at angiotensin II receptors, nor does it inhibit ACE or renin production.
Indications for Use:
Diovan is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults and pediatric patients aged 6 years and older. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Contraindications:
Do not administer Diovan to patients who are pregnant, have a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor therapy, or have severe hepatic impairment. Patients with hypersensitivity to valsartan should also avoid its use.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Diovan include dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, and cough. Rare but serious adverse reactions may include renal impairment, hyperkalemia, and angioedema. Patients should be monitored for signs of these adverse effects.
Usage Instructions:
The usual recommended dose of Diovan is one 80 mg tablet taken orally once daily. It can be administered with or without food. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on individual patient response.
Benefits Compared to Analogues:
Diovan offers the advantage of once-daily dosing, making it convenient for patients to adhere to their treatment regimen. Its selective mechanism of action and favorable side effect profile contribute to its efficacy and tolerability compared to other antihypertensive medications.
Suitable Patient Groups:
Diovan is suitable for use in various patient populations, including adults of all ages and children over 6 years old. It is generally well-tolerated and may be particularly beneficial for elderly patients due to its favorable side effect profile.
Storage and Shelf Life:
Store Diovan tablets in their original packaging at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use the product if it has expired.
Packaging Description:
Diovan is available in blister packs containing 14 coated tablets of 80 mg strength. The packaging is designed to protect the tablets from environmental factors and maintain their stability until use.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness:
Studies have demonstrated the efficacy of valsartan in reducing blood pressure levels and improving cardiovascular outcomes. Clinical trials have shown that Diovan effectively lowers both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, leading to a significant reduction in cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients.
