Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.

Phenols belong to aromatic alcohols, and their solutions in a concentration of 0.5-1.5% have antiseptic and short-term weak analgesic effect (by blocking the occurrence and conduction of nerve impulses due to reduced permeability of membranes for sodium ions). They act bacteriostatically against vegetative forms of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms and some viruses, and also act very slowly on spores and acid-fast bacteria.

Pharmacokinetics.

The drug is minimally absorbed through the mucous membranes. The half-life is 1-4 hours. Period of action – 30-60 minutes. It is rapidly excreted from the body without accumulation by the kidneys in the form of metabolites.

Indication
In otolaryngological and dental practice as an adjunct in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the pharyngeal mucosa and oral cavity (tonsillitis, after tonsillectomy, tooth extraction, aphthous and ulcerative lesions of the oral mucosa, minor surgery), prosthetics.

Contraindication
Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Inflammatory diseases with widespread damage to the mucous membranes due to increased absorption of the drug and increased risk of systemic toxicity.

Significant liver or kidney dysfunction.

Phenol should not be used as a throat spray in patients with inflammation of the epiglottis.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
The drug is prescribed in the complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat together with sulfonamides, antibiotics, vitamins.

The drug should not be used concomitantly with drugs for the treatment of myasthenia gravis without consulting a doctor; drugs that depress the central nervous system; disinfectant solutions containing heavy metals; monoamine oxidase inhibitors; neuromuscular transmission blockers; opioids; vasoconstrictors.

Features of application
The drug is intended for short-term topical use.

Do not exceed the recommended doses.

The phenol solution should not be applied to large areas of skin or large wounds, as absorption may result in toxic effects.

If severe sore throat lasts longer than 2 days and is accompanied by fever, headache, rash, nausea or vomiting, you should see a doctor.

If the symptoms of the disease when using the drug do not disappear within 7 days or are accompanied by fever for more than 3 days, or are accompanied by rash or constant headache, you also need to consult a doctor.
