Description
Folic acid №100 Description
Folic acid belongs to the B vitamins. It is synthesized by the intestinal microflora, and also enters the body with food.
Folic acid was first isolated from green leaves of plants, which explains its name (from Lat. Folium – leaf). Folic acid is found in high concentrations in green plants – cabbage, spinach, green beans, parsley. But, despite this, a lack of folic acid is one of the most common hypovitaminosis.
Folic acid №100 regulates the processes of hematopoiesis, is necessary for the normal formation of blood cells, and participates in the synthesis of hemoglobin.
In addition, folic acid plays an important role in protein metabolism, growth and development. It has a positive effect on fat metabolism in the liver, the metabolism of cholesterol and a number of vitamins.
Folic acid lowers blood levels of potentially harmful amino acids called “homocysteine”, an increase in blood levels that can lead to heart disease. Folic acid is especially necessary for pregnant women, since its deficiency during pregnancy can lead to premature birth and further physical and mental retardation of the child. Folic acid is recommended to be taken in order to prevent the development of neural tube defects in the fetus during planning and in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Solgar Folic Acid is made from natural sources without the addition of any synthetic preservatives or colors. Solgar “Folic Acid” can be recommended for use also for women during pregnancy and lactation.
