Description

Fortum Powder for Solution for Injections/Infusions 2 g

Composition:

Each vial contains 2 g of ceftazidime (as pentahydrate).

Mechanism of Action:

Ceftazidime exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It penetrates the bacterial cell wall and binds to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to the inhibition of peptidoglycan cross-linking and eventual cell lysis. This mechanism of action makes ceftazidime effective against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria.

Pharmacological Properties:

Fortum (ceftazidime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against many Gram-negative bacteria.

Indications for Use:

  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Septicemia

Contraindications:

Do not use Fortum if there is a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Caution is advised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and superinfection. Consult a healthcare provider for more information.

Usage Instructions:

Fortum is for intravenous or intramuscular use only. It should be reconstituted with the appropriate diluent as directed before administration.

Benefits Compared to Analogues:

Fortum has demonstrated similar or superior effectiveness compared to other antibiotics in its class, as shown in clinical trials.

Suitable Patient Groups:

Fortum is suitable for adults with bacterial infections. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for children and elderly patients based on individual factors.

Storage and Shelf Life:

Store Fortum according to the instructions provided on the packaging. Check the expiration date before use and do not use expired products.

Packaging Description:

Fortum is available in vials containing 2 g of ceftazidime (as pentahydrate) for solution for injections/infusions.

Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness:
