Description
Fortum Powder for Solution for Injections/Infusions 2 g. №1
Ingredients:
Each vial contains 2 g of ceftazidime (as pentahydrate).
Dosage:
The dosage and duration of therapy should be determined by a healthcare provider. The usual dose for adults is 1 to 6 grams daily, administered in divided doses.
Indications:
Fortum is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections caused by susceptible strains. These include respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, and septicemia.
Contraindications:
Do not use Fortum if there is a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Caution is advised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.
Directions:
Fortum is for intravenous or intramuscular use only. It should be reconstituted with the appropriate diluent as directed before administration.
Scientific Evidence:
Fortum (ceftazidime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against many Gram-negative bacteria. Studies have shown its efficacy in treating serious infections, including those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Research published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy demonstrated the effectiveness of ceftazidime in the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia.
Additional Information:
It is important to complete the full course of Fortum as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before the course is finished. Failure to do so may result in the infection not being fully treated and the risk of bacterial resistance developing.
Pharmacological Effects:
Ceftazidime exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It penetrates the bacterial cell wall and binds to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to the inhibition of peptidoglycan cross-linking and eventual cell lysis. This mechanism of action makes ceftazidime effective against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness:
Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of ceftazidime in the treatment of various infections. In comparative studies, ceftazidime has shown similar or superior effectiveness compared to other antibiotics in its class. A study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases compared the efficacy of ceftazidime with other antibiotics in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections, showing favorable outcomes with ceftazidime treatment.
Overall, Fortum powder for solution for injections/infusions 2 g. №1 is a well-established antibiotic with proven efficacy in the treatment of bacterial infections, supported by scientific evidence and clinical trials.
