Scientific Evidence
Dapagliflozin, the active ingredient in Forxiga, is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that works by inhibiting glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in the urine. Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of dapagliflozin in improving glycemic control and reducing body weight in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine has shown that dapagliflozin, when used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, significantly lowers hemoglobin A1c levels and reduces the risk of cardiovascular events in diabetic patients.
Additional Information
- Forxiga may increase the risk of genital mycotic infections. Patients should maintain good hygiene practices to reduce this risk.
- It is important to monitor renal function regularly while taking Forxiga, especially in patients with impaired renal function.
