Ftalazol Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics.
Sulfanilamide drug with a broad spectrum of action, active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms – pathogens of intestinal infections. It has a bacteriostatic effect, the mechanism of which is due to a violation of the synthesis in microorganisms of their growth factors – folic and dehydrofolic acids, which are necessary for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
Pharmacokinetics.
The drug is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, its main amount is retained in the intestinal lumen. In the small intestine, it breaks down to form sulfathiazole (norsulfazole), which has a high antimicrobial activity.
The created high concentration of sulfathiazole in the intestine, taking into account the specific bacteriostatic activity in relation to the intestinal flora, determines the effectiveness of phthalylsulfathiazole in intestinal infections.
