Throat remedies. Antiseptics. ATX code R02A A20.

Pharmacodynamics
The effect of the drug is due to three active ingredients.

Antibacterial and antifungal activity. Hexetidine has an antibacterial effect on both gram-positive and gram-negative strains of microorganisms, both aerobic and anaerobic.

It should be noted that it has mainly a bacteriostatic effect on aerobic strains, while its bactericidal effect is weak. Hexetidine has a pronounced bactericidal effect on anaerobic strains. The mechanism of action is a competitive interaction with thiamine: the structure of hexetidine is similar to the structure of thiamine, which is necessary for the growth of microorganisms.

Anti-inflammatory activity. Choline salicylate has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects. For the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity.

The analgesic activity is provided by chlorobutanol. Use in otolaryngology (nasal drops, rinses) and in dental practice (applications and irrigation) as an anesthetic.

Pharmacokinetics
The active substances are fixed on the oral mucosa, from where they are gradually released.

Indications
Antibacterial and anesthetic agent for local treatment of diseases of the oral mucosa and oropharynx.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Contraindicated in patients with atrophic pharyngitis, bronchial asthma or any other respiratory diseases associated with existing airway hypersensitivity.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
Do not use together with preparations containing antiseptics. Hexetidine can be inactivated with alkaline solutions.

Application features
When using the drug, do not swallow and avoid contact with eyes, as it contains ethanol. Long-term use is not recommended, as the natural microbial balance of the mouth and throat may change, where there is a risk of bacterial and fungal spread.

When general clinical signs of bacterial infection appear, general antibiotic therapy should be prescribed. If symptoms persist for more than 5 days and / or an increased body temperature, it is necessary to reconsider the tactics of treatment.

The drug should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy. The drug can reduce the epileptic threshold and cause seizures in children. Use with caution in patients with a tendency to allergic reactions, including bronchial asthma, especially in patients with allergy to acetylsalicylic acid.

If signs of hypersensitivity to the drug appear, its use should be discontinued immediately. The drug contains ethanol, so it should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. There is a risk of laryngospasm in children due to the presence of menthol.

If inflammation increases, treatment should be discontinued.
