Ionica Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The solution of the drug Ionic, according to WHO recommendations, has a reduced osmolarity of 245 mOsm / l, pH – slightly alkaline. The drug solution is used to correct the loss of electrolytes and fluid in diarrhea. Glucose promotes the absorption of salts, citrates help to correct the balance in metabolic acidosis.
Pharmacokinetics
The pharmacokinetics of water, electrolytes and glucose, which are part of the drug Ionic, correspond to the natural pharmacokinetics of these substances in the body.
Ionica Clinical characteristics
Indication
Restoration of water-electrolyte balance, correction of acidosis in acute diarrhea (including cholera), diarrhea with mild or moderate dehydration, with thermal lesions that occur with disorders of water-electrolyte metabolism.
For preventive purposes: thermal and physical exertion that lead to intense sweating.
Ionica Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any other component of the drug, severe dehydration, loss of consciousness, hemodynamic shock, intestinal obstruction, unrestrained vomiting, ileus.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.
There is no information about the interaction of the drug Ionic with other drugs. The absorption of drugs can be altered in diarrhea, mainly drugs absorbed in the small or large intestine, or in their intestinal and hepatic circulation.
The pH of the drug solution is slightly alkaline, so it can affect drugs, the absorption of which depends on the pH of the intestinal contents.
Features of application
The drug is administered orally, using water to dissolve it. The contents of 1 sachet of the drug Ionic should be dissolved in 0.2 liters of water. If the dose is exceeded, the patient may develop hypernatremia. Sugar should not be added to the solution. Meals are possible immediately after rehydration. When vomiting, wait 10 minutes and drink the solution slowly, in small sips.
Severe dehydration (weight loss over 9% in children, anuria) should be treated primarily with intravenous rehydration drugs. After that, Ionica may be prescribed to continue therapy.
The recommended dose should not be exceeded unless the patient’s need for additional electrolytes has been confirmed by laboratory tests.
