Scientific Evidence
Xylometazoline hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Ksilo-Mefa Nasal Spray, is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist. It works by constricting the blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing swelling and congestion. Studies have shown that xylometazoline provides rapid relief from nasal congestion with minimal systemic absorption, making it a preferred choice for nasal decongestion.
Additional Information
It is important to note that prolonged use of nasal decongestants like xylometazoline can lead to rebound congestion, where the nasal passages become more congested when the medication is stopped. To prevent this, it is recommended to use the spray for a maximum of 3-5 days. If symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness
Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of xylometazoline in providing rapid relief from nasal congestion compared to placebo. Additionally, comparative studies have shown that xylometazoline nasal spray has similar effectiveness to other decongestants but with a lower risk of systemic side effects due to its localized action.
Overall, Ksilo-Mefa Nasal Spray offers effective relief from nasal congestion with a well-established safety profile supported by scientific evidence and clinical trials.
