Pharmacological properties
Cefixime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin with a broad spectrum of action, the bactericidal activity of which extends to gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. The bactericidal action of cefixime is due to inhibition of protein synthesis in the walls of microbial cells. Cefixime is highly resistant to beta-lactamases, as a result of which many microorganisms resistant to penicillin and some cephalosporins due to the presence of beta-lactamases may be sensitive to cefixime.
Cefixime is active against the following gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus agalactiae; Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Branhamella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, other indole-positive strains Proteus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Citibiella oxytoca, Enterobacteriaceae, Enterobacteriaceae diversus, Serratia marcescens.
Indication for use of Loprax tablets
Infections caused by drug-sensitive microorganisms:
- acute and chronic bronchitis;
- acute pneumonia;
- inflammation of the middle ear;
- pharyngitis, tonsillitis and sinusitis of bacterial etiology;
- uncomplicated bacterial infections of the genitourinary system.
Contraindication:
- hypersensitivity to cefixime or to any of the components of the drug;
- hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins;
- children under 12 years (for this dosage form and dosage);
- bronchial asthma or a history of allergies (eg, urticaria or skin rash);
- porphyria.
Children
In this dosage form and dosage, the drug is used for children over 12 years of age.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
During pregnancy, the drug is possible only in the presence of absolute indications, if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. It is not recommended to use the drug during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be discontinued during the period of drug use.
Method of application and dosage
The usual dose of Loprax tablets for adults and children over 12 years of age is 400 mg per day. Take once or 200 mg 2 times a day with an interval of 12 hours.
Overdose
There is a risk of encephalopathy with beta-lactam antibiotics, including cefixime, especially in cases of overdose and renal failure.
In case of overdose there is dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, increased other manifestations of adverse reactions. There are no specific antidotes for the treatment of overdose. Symptomatic and supportive therapy (gastric lavage to reduce drug absorption; detoxification therapy, enterosorbents) should be prescribed. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis only slightly contributes to the excretion of cefixime from the body.
Side effects
When using cephalosporins, gastrointestinal disorders are most often observed, rarely – hypersensitivity reactions.
Hypersensitivity reactions are more common in patients who have already experienced hypersensitivity reactions and in patients with a history of allergies, hay fever, urticaria, bronchial asthma with an allergic component.
Expiration date
3 years.
Storage conditions
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C in the original package. Keep out of reach of children.
