Pharmacological properties
It is a combined anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent for topical use in ophthalmology. Contains an antibiotic aminoglycoside, which penetrates the bacterial cell membrane, binds to specific receptors on the 30S ribosome subunit and disrupts the process of protein synthesis, exerting a bacteriostatic effect (stops the growth and reproduction of bacteria). At higher concentrations, it damages the cytoplasmic membranes of microbial cells, causing their rapid death (bactericidal effect). Polymyxin B is an antibiotic of a polypeptide structure that binds to phospholipids of cell membranes, destroying them. Dexamethasone is a glucocorticoid agent that has a pronounced antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, desensitizing effect.
