Meralis composition
active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride;
1 ml of solution contains xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg;
excipients: sea water of the Adriatic Sea, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, purified water.

Pharmacological properties
The drug Meralis belongs to the group of sympathomimetics – drugs that increase the release of norepinephrine from the endings of adrenergic fibers. The drug narrows the vessels of the nasal mucosa, clears the passages, facilitates nasal breathing, relieves swelling of the passages and paranasal sinuses, removes regular watery nasal discharge. The patient feels the first relief after taking the drug within 5-10 minutes after the injection.
The active substance xylometazoline is absorbed into the systemic circulation.
Indications for use
Meralis is used to relieve symptoms in people with severe and / or chronic rhinitis of various origins. Effective for viral, bacterial, allergic and vasomotor rhinitis.
Meralis is also applicable for various forms of sinusitis, in chronic and acute stages. The medicine is prescribed for the complex therapy of acute otitis media.
Contraindications
It is not recommended to take the drug if the patient is highly sensitive to any of the ingredients of the drug, with dry inflammation in the nasal passages.
Concomitant use of tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors and Tizin Xylo is contraindicated.
Intranasal injection is prohibited in the presence of glaucoma.
Care should be taken when taking the drug in patients with a history of high blood pressure, angina pectoris, pheochromocytoma, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, diseases of the endocrine and cardiovascular systems.
Taking with monoamine oxidase inhibitors is not recommended.
Drivers and those who drive vehicles and mechanisms that require concentration should be especially careful.
Children
0.1% solution of the drug cannot be prescribed to children under 6 years old, 0.05% solution is not permissible for children under 2 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
For women during childbearing and during lactation, it is contraindicated for use.
With the vital need for intranasal use, a woman who is breastfeeding needs a specialist consultation. In this case, you will have to interrupt breastfeeding.
Mode of application
Meralis is intended solely for instillation or nasal injection.
The nasal passages must be cleared of accumulated mucus.
The bottle should be in an upright position with the spray up. The tip is gently inserted into the nose after exhalation, inhalation is taken through the mouth while pressing the nebulizer. Repeat the procedure for both nostrils.
With each use, the nebulizer must be cleaned of mucus or other nasal fluid. The duration of drug therapy depends on the nature and severity of the disease, the patient’s tolerance of treatment.
The recommended dose for adults and children over 6 years old is 1 dose or 2-3 drops of the medicine.
For this category, a 0.1% solution of the drug is used.
The dosage recommended for children from 2 to 6 years old is 1 injection dose or 1-2 drops three times a day. In this case, a 0.05% solution is used.
It is not recommended to use the drug for more than 5 days. If it is necessary to repeat the course of treatment, it is necessary to maintain an interval of 3-5 days and repeat the therapy.
Long-term use of the drug requires constant medical supervision.
Overdose
Excess dosages are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fever, muscle cramps, dilated pupils, a sharp increase in blood pressure, and disturbances in the rhythm of the heartbeat.
Excessively high doses are fraught with cardiac arrest and respiratory system, pulmonary edema, mental disorders, a decrease in body temperature, shock and, as a result, coma.
In case of unintentional overdose, it is necessary to rinse the stomach and take sorbents.
Removal of the patient from the state of overdose should be carried out on an outpatient basis under the close supervision of a physician.
Adverse reactions
Drug therapy may be accompanied by the following negative conditions:
- burning in the nose, redness of the nasal mucosa,
- rush of fluid and redness of the nose, its mucous membranes,
- increased fatigue, violation of the daily routine, headache,
- tachycardia, increased blood pressure.
Storage conditions
Meralis is stored in a dark and dry place at a temperature of 15-25 degrees above zero.
An opened bottle should not be stored for more than 12 weeks.
