Pharmacological properties
Meratin is an effective drug for the treatment of trichomoniasis, giardiasis, chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers. Ornidazole, which is the active component of the drug, has antiprotozoal properties. The actions of the drug lead to violations of the structure of DNA in microorganisms sensitive to it. Ornidazole is active against Entamoeba histolytica, Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis (Giardia lamblia), Haelicobacter Pylori, as well as against anaerobic bacteria: Fusobacterium spp, Clostridium spp, Bacteroides and anaerobic cocci.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
Reception of Meratin during pregnancy up to 12 weeks is contraindicated, after 12 weeks it is possible only if indicated, if the intended benefit for the woman significantly exceeds the complications for the child. A nursing woman cannot take the drug, therefore, when Meratin is prescribed, feeding stops.
Mode of application
Meratin is for internal use only after meals.
The doctor sets the dose, frequency of administration and duration of treatment.
The range of single use is from 0.5 to 2.0 g, depending on the disease, patient’s weight and the scheme of therapeutic influence. For children, the daily dose is 20 to 40 mg / kg with a body weight of less than 35 kg.
- Trichomoniasis
Take 10 days, 1 tablet 2 times a day (morning and evening). Treatment of the sexual partner is imperative. Taking pills can be changed in case of a complicated form. Children take a single dose of 25 mg / kg. - Amebiasis
With amoebic dysentery, treatment lasts 3 days, and with other types of amoebiasis – from 5 to 10 days. Adults take Meratin 1 time a day, in the evening, in a dose of 1.5 g for 3 days, or 0.5 g in the evening and in the morning for 5 to 10 days; children take 0.025 g / kg per day. - Giardiasis
In severe forms, therapy is established individually. Children weighing less than 35 kg take Meratin at a dosage of 0.04 g / kg once a day.
In order to prevent anaerobic infection
1000 mg 2 hours to 60 minutes before surgery.
After surgery, 500 mg 2 r / day for another 3-5 days.
Overdose
If you exceed the dosage prescribed by your doctor, convulsions are possible, as well as increased side effects. When a convulsive syndrome occurs, diazepam is prescribed.
Adverse reactions
Adverse reactions when using the drug: headache, drowsiness is possible, mild and quickly transient, numbness in the mouth. Very rarely, there is a rash, irritation. It is also rare, but possible violations of coordination of movements, convulsions, confusion.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C in a dark place out of the reach of children.
The shelf life of the drug is 36 months (3 years).
