Pharmacological properties
Miramistin is an antiseptic (disinfectant) agent that has a wide range of antimicrobial action, including hospital strains of pathogens that are resistant (resistant) to antibiotics.
The drug has a bactericidal effect (kills bacteria) against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus sp., Streptococcus pneumoniae and others), gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonasae ruginosa, Escherichia colі, Klebsiella spp. And others), aerobic bacteria, including anaerobic bacteria with multi-antibiotic resistance. The solution also has an antifungal effect on ascomycetes of the genus Aspergіllus, genus Penicillium, yeast (Torulopsis gabrata, Rhodotorula rubra, etc.), yeast-like fungi (Candida tropicalis, Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Pityrosporum, etc.), dermatitis, etc. Trіchophyton mentagrophytes, Trіchophyton rubrum, Trіchophyton verrucosum, Trіchophyton schoenleini, Epіdermophyton Kaufman-Wolf, Trіchophyton violacent, Epіdermophyton floccosum, Mіcrosporum canis, Microsporum gypseum diseases) against other fungal diseases. The drug has an antiviral effect, is active against complex viruses (herpes virus, VIL). Also acts on the causative agents of sexually transmitted diseases (Chlamydia spp., Treponema spp., Trichomonas vaginalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae), effectively prevents infection of burns and wounds. Activates regenerative processes. Stimulates protective reactions at the site of application, by activating the digestive, absorptive capacity of phagocytes, stimulates the activity of the monocytic-macrophage system. Also, the solution has a pronounced hyperosmolar activity, as a result of which it absorbs purulent exudate, relieves wound, perifocal (around the wound) inflammation, contributing to the formation of a dry scab. Does not damage granulation tissue, viable skin cells, does not violate marginal epithelization. It has no local irritant effect, allergenic properties.
When applied topically, it does not have the ability to be absorbed through the skin, mucous membranes.
Indications
Miramistin is prescribed:
- in otorhinolaryngology – for the treatment of acute / chronic otitis media, tonsillitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis; . children from 3 years of age are used to treat acute pharyngitis, exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis;
- in dentistry – for the treatment / prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity (gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontitis, periodontitis); for hygienic processing of removable dentures;
- in surgery / traumatology – for the prevention of suppuration, treatment of purulent wounds, inflammatory processes from the side of the musculoskeletal system;
- in obstetrics / gynecology – for the prevention / treatment of suppuration of postpartum injuries, postpartum infections, perineal wounds, vagina, inflammatory diseases (endometritis, vulvovaginitis;
- in combustiology: for the treatment of superficial or deep burns of II / IIIA degree, preparation of burn wounds for dermatoplasty;
- in dermatology / venereology – for the treatment / prevention of pyoderma (purulent skin lesions), dermatomycosis, candidiasis of the skin or mucous membranes, mycoses of the feet; for individual prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, herpes of the genitals, genital candidiasis and others);
- in urology – for the treatment of acute / chronic urethritis, specific urethroprostatitis (gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydia) or nonspecific nature.

Method of administration and dosage
The preparation is ready for local use.
Directions for use of packaging with a spray nozzle: remove the cap from the bottle (also remove the urological applicator from the 50 ml bottle); remove the supplied attachment from the protective packaging; attach the nozzle to the bottle; activate the attachment by pressing.

- In otorhinolaryngology with purulent sinusitis, the solution is used during the puncture of the maxillary sinus for washing. For tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, rinse the throat and / or irrigate the throat with a solution using a spray nozzle – 3-4 pressings x3-4 times / day; use 10-15 ml of solution for one rinse. In case of acute pharyngitis, exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis in children, irrigation of the pharynx is carried out using a spray nozzle. Children aged 3–6 years are shown a single press on the head of the nozzle (one irrigation = 3–5 ml) x 3–4 times / day; children aged 7-14 years are shown double pressing (one irrigation = 5-7 ml) x 3-4 times / day; children over 14 years old are shown 3-4 clicks (one irrigation = 10-15 ml) x 3-4 times / day. The duration of treatment is usually 4-10 days, depending on the timing of the onset of remission (abatement of the inflammatory process).
- In dentistry for stomatitis, periodontitis, gingivitis, it is recommended to rinse the mouth with 10-15 ml of solution x 3-4 times / day.
- In surgery, traumatology, combustiology, the solution is used for prophylactic or therapeutic purposes – loosely tampon the fistulous passages, wounds, irrigate the surface of burns and wounds, fix gauze tampons soaked in solution. The procedure is repeated 2-3 times / day for 3-5 days.
- In obstetrics and gynecology, the solution is used to prevent postpartum infection in the form of vaginal irrigation before childbirth (course – 5-7 days), after each vaginal examination during childbirth, as well as in the postpartum period – in the form of a tampon soaked in 50 ml of solution with exposure 2 hours (course – 5 days). For convenience, a gynecological attachment is used. When delivering by cesarean section, the vagina is treated with a solution just before the operation, the uterine cavity, an incision on it – during the operation, and in the postoperative period, tampons moistened with the solution are inserted into the vagina with an exposure of 2 hours (7 days). Treatment of inflammatory diseases is carried out within 2 weeks by = insertion of tampons with a solution into the vagina, as well as by electrophoresis.
- For the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, the solution is effective if it is applied no later than 2 hours after intercourse. To do this, insert the contents of the bottle into the urethra using the urological applicator for 2-3 minutes: for men – 2-3 ml, for women – 1-2 ml, and into the vagina – 5-10 ml. For convenience, it is recommended to use a gynecological attachment. You also need to process the skin of the external genitalia, pubis, inner thighs. After the procedure, you should not urinate for 2 hours.
- In the complex treatment of urethroprostatitis, urethritis, 2-3 ml of solution is injected into the urethra 1-2 times a day, the course is 10 days.

Side effects
There may be a slight burning sensation at the site of application, which disappears on its own after 15–20 s. Allergic manifestations are also possible.
Storage conditions and periods
Store Miramistin at temperature 15-25 ° С. The shelf life of Miramistin is three years.
