Scientific Evidence
Oxymetazoline, the active ingredient in Nazo-spray, is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages. This action reduces swelling and congestion, allowing for easier breathing. Studies have shown that oxymetazoline provides rapid and effective relief from nasal congestion with minimal systemic absorption, making it a preferred choice for nasal congestion relief.
Additional Information
Nazo-spray is for nasal use only. Prolonged use beyond the recommended duration can lead to rebound congestion. Consult a healthcare professional before using in children under 6 years old or if you have any underlying medical conditions. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Pharmacological studies have demonstrated the efficacy of oxymetazoline in relieving nasal congestion by its vasoconstrictive effects on nasal blood vessels. Clinical trials have shown that Nazo-spray provides fast and long-lasting relief from nasal congestion compared to saline sprays or oral decongestants.
Research by Smith et al. (2018) published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology highlighted the superior efficacy of oxymetazoline nasal spray in improving nasal airflow and reducing congestion symptoms compared to placebo, emphasizing its role as a first-line treatment for nasal congestion.
