Scientific Evidence:
Nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker, has been extensively studied for its efficacy in managing hypertension and angina. Research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has shown that nifedipine effectively reduces blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow and reducing the workload on the heart.
Additional Information:
It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not to discontinue the medication abruptly. Consult your healthcare provider before starting nifedipine, especially if you have liver or kidney problems. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
Nifedipine’s pharmacological action involves blocking calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. This mechanism helps in reducing blood pressure and improving coronary blood flow, making it a valuable option in the management of cardiovascular conditions.
