Nifuroxazid composition
active substance: nifuroxazide;
5 ml of the drug contain nifuroxazide 220 mg;
excipients: sucrose; carbomer; sodium hydroxide; citric acid; methylparaben (E 218); ethanol 96%; Banana flavoring containing maltodextrin, dextrin and glycerol triacetate; purified water.

Dosage form
The suspension is oral.

Pharmacological properties
Nifuroxazide is an antimicrobial drug derived from nitrofuran. The mechanism of action is not fully understood. The antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties of nifuroxazide may be due to the presence of an amino group. Local activity and lack of penetration into organs and tissues of the body determines the uniqueness of nifuroxazide compared to other derivatives of nitrofuran, as there is no systemic effect of this antidiarrheal drug. Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria: Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Salmonellae, Shigellae.

Indication
Acute diarrhea of ​​infectious etiology.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to nifuroxazide, other 5-nitrofuran derivatives or other components of the drug.

Children
Do not prescribe to children under 2 years of age.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
There are no adequate data from the use of nifuroxazide in teratogenic and foetotoxic effects during pregnancy. Therefore, the use of nifuroxazide as a precaution during pregnancy is not recommended.
The drug can be used in women during breastfeeding, provided short-term treatment with nifuroxazide.

Method of application and dosage
Take Nifuroxazid orally, with or without food. The suspension should be shaken before use. The maximum daily dose of nifuroxazide is 800 mg.
Children over 2 years of age: 5 ml of suspension 3 times a day.
Adults: 5 ml of suspension 4 times a day.
Duration of treatment – no more than 7 days.

Overdose
Cases of overdose are not described.
If the therapeutic dose is exceeded, gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are recommended.

Side effects
There may be temporary abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, increased diarrhea. Possible allergic reactions, including itching, skin rash, urticaria, Quincke’s edema, anaphylactic shock. The occurrence of an allergic reaction requires discontinuation of the drug. In the future, the patient should avoid taking nifuroxazide and other nitrofuran derivatives.

Expiration date
3 years.

Storage conditions
Store Nifuroxazid in the original package at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºC. Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach of children. The shelf life of the drug after opening the bottle is 28 days.
