Description
Nistatin composition
One tablet contains the active ingredient: nystatin (250,000 units), as well as additional substances: lactose, talc, corn starch, calcium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, methylcellulose, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, vanillin, tartrazine, copolividone.
Release form
The drug is produced in the form of coated tablets with a vanillin odor, light yellow in color with a greenish tinge.
Pharmacological properties
Nistatin belongs to a group of antifungal drugs used for intestinal infections. Possesses antifungal, fungistatic and fungicidal action. The mechanism of action of the drug is due to a violation of the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane, which leads to the loss of the contents of the fungal cell and its death.
Indications for use

Contraindications

Mode of application
Nistatin is used about an hour before meals and the tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing.
For adult patients, the recommended dose is 2 tablet (500,000 IU) 2-3 times a day at regular intervals. A daily dose of 6-12 tablets (1,500,000-3,000,000 IU) in severe cases, up to 20 tablets (6,000,000 IU) are allowed.
For children over 6 years of age, the recommended dose is 1 tablet (250,000 IU) 3-4 times a day, for children over 13 years of age, the dosage is the same as for adults. The daily dose, for children over 6 years of age, no more than 4 tablets (1,000,000 IU), for children over 13 years of age, no more than 8 tablets (2,000,000 IU), in severe cases, no more than 12 tablets (3,000,000 IU).
The duration of therapy depends on the sensitivity to the drug and the severity of the disease, usually 10-14 days.
Overdose
Symptoms of an overdose of the drug are: nausea, gastrointestinal disorders, increased side effects. As a treatment, the drug should be discontinued and symptomatic therapy should be carried out.
Adverse reactions
Adverse reactions during the use of the drug can manifest themselves in the form of: nausea, gastralgia, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, dyspeptic manifestations, bitter taste in the mouth, tachycardia, photosensitivity, nonspecific myalgia. Allergic reactions are possible (chills, fever, hypersensitivity reactions, including pruritus, hives, rash, anaphylactic reactions, for example, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, bronchospasm, facial edema). Also, taking pills increases the likelihood of the spread of resistant forms of fungi, in which case the drug should be canceled.
Storage conditions
To store Nistatin, follow these simple conditions: temperature no more than + 25 ° C, dark place, closed packaging, inaccessibility to children. The shelf life is 36 months from the date of production.
