Description
Norgalax composition
The main active ingredient of the drug is sodium docusat.
Excipients are: sodium carmellose, glycerin, purified water.
1 gram contains – 12 mg of the main active ingredient – sodium docusate.
Release form
It is produced in the form of a liquid gel, packaged in cannula tubes with a volume of 10 grams.
Pharmacological properties
This drug Norgalax belongs to a group of drugs prescribed to facilitate bowel movements.
Dokusat sodium has emulsifying and moisturizing properties. Facilitates bowel movements by thinning the stool, neutralizes constipation that may occur during treatment with iron preparations.
It stimulates the movement of feces through the intestines, softens them, retains water in them, increasing their volume.
It works in the rectum, already 20 minutes after application.
Indications

Contraindications
Not applicable if the patient has hypersensitivity (allergy) to one of the components that make up the drug.
Contraindicated in:
- intestinal obstruction;
- hemorrhoids;
- anal fissures, anal bleeding;
- inflammatory bowel disease;
- abdominal pain;
- nausea, vomiting;
- ulcerative colitis.
Children
Not used in pediatrics under the age of 15 years.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
It is permissible to use with caution for the treatment of pregnant women.
During treatment, lactation (breastfeeding) should be suspended.
Method of administration and dosage
Norgalax is intended for rectal use. The contents of the tube are injected into the rectum using a cannula tube (microclysters).
If necessary, a drop of gel can be used to lubricate the cannula prior to administration.
For a one-time treatment of constipation, the contents of one tube are injected, 5-20 minutes before bowel movement. Do not use more than 1 time per day.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, an increase in side effects may occur.
In particular, too long-term use of this drug can cause the development of intestinal atony and hypokalemia.
For this reason, it should not be applied on an ongoing basis, and if persistent constipation persists, the root cause of their occurrence should be identified and eliminated.
Side effects
Usually, taking this drug is well tolerated and rarely causes side effects, usually of an allergic nature, in particular, in the form of itching, urticaria.
Long-term treatment can cause complications in the work of the digestive tract in the form of burning sensations in the anus, rectal pain.
In rare cases, congestive proctitis and rectal bleeding may appear.
The presence of glycerin can cause indigestion and diarrhea.
Side effects from the hepatobiliary system are possible. In particular, hepatotoxicity may occur, which is more likely to occur with oral administration of docusate sodium, especially in patients who are simultaneously using other laxatives.

Storage conditions and periods
The shelf life of the drug is no more than 3 years from the production date indicated on the package.
