Description
Oftacvix composition
The main active ingredient of the drug is levofloxacin.
Auxiliary substances are: diluted hydrochloric acid, benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, water for injection.
Release form
It is produced in the form of an injection solution, poured into dropper tubes with a volume of 0.3 ml, which contains 1 dose of the drug 1.5 mg of levofloxacin levofloxacin hemihydrate.
Pharmacological properties
This drug Oftacvix belongs to the group of antibacterial drugs of the group of quinolones, fluoroquinolones, used in ophthalmic practice.
The effect of the application is due to the properties of the main active substance of the drug – levofloxacin, which is a synthetic antibacterial agent, the L-isomer of ofloxacin. Also levofloxacin is the S-enantiometer of the racemic mixture of ofloxacin.
Able to affect DNA-DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
The level of antibacterial activity of the drug depends on its concentration in the blood serum.
There is a risk of cross-resistance with other fluoroquinolones and no cross-resistance with other antibiotic groups.
Indications
This drug Oftacvix is intended for the treatment of bacterial inflammatory eye diseases caused by bacteria susceptible to levofloxacin.
Contraindications
Not applicable if the patient has hypersensitivity (allergy) to one of the components that make up the drug.
Children
It is contraindicated for use in pediatrics under the age of 1 year.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Treatment of pregnant women with this drug is contraindicated.
During treatment, lactation (breastfeeding) should be suspended.
Method of administration and dosage
Oftacvix is intended solely for topical use (eye drop).
Instill 1-2 drops into each affected eye, every 2 hours (but no more than 8 times a day) – during the first 2 days.
Starting from the 3rd to the 5th day – 1-2 drops up to 4 times a day.
The recommended average duration of treatment is 5 days.
In order to drip your eyes, you need to cleanly wash your hands, pull off the lower eyelid and drip 1-2 drops of the drug into the opened conjunctival sac.
If it is not possible to drop it into the conjunctival sac, it is enough to drop 2-3 drops into the inner corner of the eye.
After instillation, you should close your eyes and slightly press on the eyelids, throwing your head back, for better absorption of the drug into the tissue.
The tip of the bottle should not touch the surface of the eye.
If there is a need to drip the eyes again, then it is permissible to instill a new drug in 10-15 minutes.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely due to the low toxicity of the drug. In case of excessive contact of the drug in the eyes, it is recommended to rinse the eyes with clean warm water.
In case of accidental ingestion, it is necessary to rinse the stomach, take sorbents.
Dialysis is ineffective. There is no antidote.
Treatment is symptomatic.
Side effects
In particular, the patient may experience:
- anaphylactic shock;
- headache;
- allergic urticaria, itching;
- burning sensation in the eyes, impaired vision, chemosis, papillary reaction of the conjunctiva, edema of the eyelids, sensation of a foreign body in the eyes, itching and pain in the eyes, dry eyes, conjunctival follicles, erythema of the eyes, photophobia;
- rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngeal edema.
Storage conditions and periods
Shelf life of Oftacvix is no more than 2 years from the production date indicated on the package. After opening the package containing dropper tubes, the drug retains its medicinal properties for 3 months.
This medicinal product should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
