Properties
Vitamin D3 has many physiological functions. The most important function of vitamin D3 is the regulation of calcium and phosphorus metabolism, contributes to the normal formation and growth of bones. Vitamin D3 is essential for the normal development of the child’s body – it affects the absorption of calcium and helps to maintain its appropriate level in the blood. With an insufficient level of vitamin D3 in the body, only 10-15% of calcium is absorbed, which comes from food. In addition to its effect on mineral metabolism, vitamin D3 affects metabolism (synthesis of lipids, proteins, enzymes, hormones), regulates the functions of organs and systems (cardiovascular system, liver, kidneys, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract). Also, vitamin D3 is involved in the functioning of the immune system, its insufficiency leads to an increase in the incidence of influenza and ARVI. A part of the required dose of vitamin D3 is naturally formed in the skin under the influence of sunlight and enters the child’s body in small quantities with nutrition. However, this replenishment is insufficient, given the limited exposure to sunlight (synthesis only occurs on clear summer days from June to August) and the small amount of vitamin D3 in food. Deficiency of vitamin D3 during the period of rapid growth of the child leads to rickets, in adults – to osteomalacia, in pregnant women – before the onset of symptoms of tetany and the lack of formation of tooth enamel in newborns.
