Description
Ospamox composition and form of release
It is made in the form of enteric-coated tablets. The active substance of the drug is amoxicillin trihydrate.
Indications
Ospamox is used in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases that are caused by microflora that are sensitive to the drug.
It is used in the treatment of diseases:
- respiratory and ENT organs (pneumonia, bronchitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, sinusitis, lung abscess);
- urinary tract (prostatitis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women);
- organs of the reproductive system (septic abortion, endometritis, adnexitis, uncomplicated gonorrhea);
- skin and soft tissues (secondarily infected dermatitis, erysipelas, impetigo);
- organs of the digestive system, liver and bile ducts (parotitis, typhoid fever, cholecystitis, shigellosis, eradication of Helicobacter pylori).
In addition, Ospamox is used in the treatment of leptospirosis, infective endocarditis, listeriosis, bacterial meningitis and sepsis. The drug can be used for the prevention of infectious lesions during surgical treatment.
Contraindications
Ospamox is not prescribed for patients who have been diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis, epilepsy, lymphocytic leukemia, intolerance to amoxicillin and cephalosparin.
Prescribing the drug to patients who have liver dysfunction, meningitis, the risk of seizures, allergic diathesis, bronchial asthma is possible only after a careful balance of harm and benefit.
Children
The use of the drug is contraindicated in children under 10 years of age.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Amoxicillin does not have an embryotoxic, mutagenic and teratogenic effect, however, it is able to penetrate the hematoplacental barrier and accumulate in high concentrations in the fetal tissues and amniotic fluid, therefore Ospamox is prescribed during pregnancy only for vital indications and in the minimum effective doses.
If it is necessary to prescribe the drug to women at the lactation stage, the question of stopping breastfeeding is decided.
Method of administration and dosage
Ospamox tablets are swallowed whole. The doctor determines the duration of treatment, taking into account the severity of the disease and the severity of the symptoms.
Adults in the treatment of diseases of mild and moderate severity receive 500 mg of the drug at regular intervals three times a day.
In the treatment of diseases characterized by a severe course, as well as chronic diseases during an exacerbation, the drug is prescribed 750 or 1000 mg 3 to 4 times a day.
Overdose
With an overdose of the drug, patients may experience dyspeptic disorders, accompanied by a violation of the water-salt balance.
In case of poisoning, the patient is prescribed gastric lavage, the intake of saline laxatives, enterosorbents and symptomatic treatment. In especially difficult cases, hemodialysis is indicated.
Side effects
In rare cases, taking the drug may be accompanied by the development of anorexia, dyspeptic disorders, flatulence, abdominal pain, increased activity of liver enzymes, impaired taste, allergic reactions, drug fever and vaginal candidiasis.
Storage conditions and periods
It is recommended to store in a dark place protected from light, out of reach of children. Storage term – 4 years.
