Panadol is used to relieve mild to moderate pain of various origins. It is used to eliminate: headaches, migraine attacks and migraine-like pains; pain syndrome that occurs with myalgia, arthralgia, rheumatic pain and neuralgia; algodismenorrhea; toothache. to relieve symptoms of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, it is also used as an antipyretic agent.
Description
Panadol composition and form of release
Produced in tablets. The main active ingredient is paracetamol.
Indications
Panadol is used to relieve mild to moderate pain of various origins. It is used to eliminate:
- headaches, migraine attacks and migraine-like pains;
- pain syndrome that occurs with myalgia, arthralgia, rheumatic pain and neuralgia;
- algodismenorrhea;
- toothache;
- to relieve symptoms of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, it is also used as an antipyretic agent.
Contraindications
Do not prescribe to patients with hypersensitivity to paracetamol, with severe impairment of the kidneys and liver, hyperbilirubinemia, deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, disorders in the functioning of the hematopoietic organs, patients suffering from chronic alcoholism. In addition, it is not used in the treatment of children under 6 years old, lactating and pregnant women.
Children
It is used in pediatrics from 6 years old.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The active substance paracetamol has a pronounced embryo toxic, mutagenic and teratogenic effect and is able to penetrate the hematoplacental barrier, and therefore its use in the therapy of pregnant women is possible only in case of emergency.
Panadol can be used in the treatment of women at the lactation stage, but only as directed by a doctor.
Method of administration and dosage
Panadol is intended for oral administration. The tablets are recommended to be swallowed whole and washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid. The duration of the course of treatment and the dose of the drug are determined by the doctor.
Children who are already 12 years old and adults are prescribed 500 or 1000 mg 3 to 4 times a day. The interval between pills should be at least 4 hours. Children from 6 to 12 years old take Panadol 250 or 500 mg 3 to 4 times a day.
The highest adult daily dose of Panadol is 4000 mg, for children – 2000 mg. It is not recommended to take the drug for more than seven days. When prescribing the drug to patients with impaired liver function, the dosage must be adjusted.
Overdose
In acute poisoning, patients may develop toxic liver damage, dyspeptic disorders, pallor of the skin, impaired appetite, impaired carbohydrate metabolism and metabolic acidosis. In especially severe cases, the occurrence of encephalopathy, hypoglycemia, bleeding and coma is observed.
To eliminate the symptoms of intoxication, the patient is given gastric lavage, enterosorbents and N-acetylcysteine are taken.
Side effects
When taken, the development of side effects is very rarely observed. When using the drug by patients with hypersensitivity, epigastric pain, dyspeptic disorders, shortness of breath, cyanosis, cardialgia, epidermal necrolysis and various allergic reactions may occur.
Storage conditions and periods
Panadol must be stored in a dry place, protected from light and children. The shelf life is 5 years.
